| In a letter to his sister Van Gogh wrote: “On the terrace there are tiny figures…an enormous yellow lantern sheds its light on the terrace and the sidewalk and even casts a brightness on the pavement, which takes on a pinkish violet tone. The gabletopped front of the houses in a street stretching away under a blue sky with stars are dark or violet.” It is interesting to note how he ascribes a different color to each detail. |
